Research Talk and Q&A: A Systematic Review of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia in Eating Disorders
This webinar features Dr. Catherine Cook Cottone and Chelsea Roff discussing their latest publication, Assisted Death in Eating Disorders: A Systematic Review of Cases and Clinical Rationales. This session delves into the findings of their recent research, exploring over sixty cases of euthanasia and assisted suicide in patients with eating disorders. The authors discuss how concepts such as treatment resistance, medical futility, individual autonomy, severe and chronic stages of illness, and mental capacity have been used and misused to grant patients with eating disorders access to lethal medications. Ultimately, we hope this conversation leads to greater understanding, increased transparency, and improved care for people with eating disorders.
